Description
The origins of the Nero di Troia vine are suspended between myth and legend. Various hypotheses about its introduction into Puglia have been put forward over the years. The most reliable, however, is attributed to Diomedes, a Greek hero, who after the Trojan War landed on the Pugliese coast and planted some branches brought with him.
The variety has a strong temperament and character. The berries are dark in colour, with a thick, compact skin covered with pruina. Its cultivation is widespread in north-central Puglia.
The grapes are included in the specifications of many denominations such as: Puglia IGT Nero di Troia, Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG and in the DOC Barletta, San Severo and Castel del Monte.
