Château Calon Ségur
Perhaps because the estate is one of the oldest in the Medoc. Perhaps because its most emblematic owner, the Marquis de Segur, forged around Calon a true legend.
Historians locate the origins of Calon in the Gallo-Roman era. Its name is derived from the term "Calones" which meant small vessels of transport sailing on the estuary of the Gironde. The production of wine is attested from the twelfth century but it is in the eighteenth century, with the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur, also owner of Latour, Lafite and Mouton that the property writes its finest pages. For centuries to come, Calon becomes Calon Segur.
The property acquires the rank of Third Cru in the famous classification of 1855. From 1894 to 2012, the family Gasqueton preserve the identity of the place, with sobriety and elegance.
Today the castles Calon Ségur and Capbern Gasqueton, are in the hands of the company Suravenir, subsidiary of Crédit Mutuel Arkéa group chaired by Jean-Pierre Denis. The insurer is associated with the Videlot group. Together, they carry out a large-scale renovation, respectful of history.
